About Colette
Colette is a British trained Nursery Nurse, educated at the prestigious Norland College in England. Norland graduates are recognized by their signature uniform of brown dress, brown hat and white gloves, and are world renowned for their very unique and expert early years education and training.
A mom of three grown children, Colette has spent her nearly three decade career working with families, empowering and educating parents on how to provide their newborns with the best possible start in life.
Over the years, while caring for newborns Colette began to observe distinct patterns in their behaviors. While some babies were naturally calm and easily soothed, others were more sensitive, reacting intensely to even small changes in their environment. These sensitive infants often became distressed by noise, light, or touch and struggled to settle, requiring much more support to calm down and sleep.
Through careful observation and research, Colette realized that these heightened reactions were due to sensory overload. The newborns' rapidly developing brains were not yet equipped to process and manage the overwhelming flood of stimuli around them. Their immature nervous systems made them more vulnerable to disruptions, and without the ability to filter out excess sensory input, they became overstimulated and distressed. This understanding led Colette to develop a strategy aimed at reducing sensory overload to support the healthy growth of their evolving brains, ensuring these babies could better handle their surroundings and have a calmer start in life.
